What’s Covered?
Alberta introduced the
New Home Buyer Protection Act (NHBPA) in 2014, designed to ensure that all home buyers receive warranty protection, clear exception and protection from unexpected issues. Under the act, all homes built after February 1, 2014 will provide “1-2-5-10” coverage.” This coverage entails: warranty coverage of
one year for labour and materials,
two years for delivery and distribution systems,
five years for building envelope protection and
ten years for major structural components. This locked in coverage means that homeowners can rest easy knowing that they are protected, and that builders are held accountable for their work.
